Robert Gordon
Mr. Gordon is Senior Advisor for Strategic Outreach at the Heritage Foundation. Prior to joining Heritage Mr Gordon directed conservative conservation organizations and served as Professional Staff of the Committee on Resources in the 108th and 109th Congresses.While with the Committee, he crafted H.R.3824, the Threatened and Endangered Species Recovery Act which passed the House of Representatives with substantial bipartisan support. Mr. Gordon also conducted oversight and investigation on issues such as international environmental programs and the management of funds derived from excise taxes on hunting and fishing.
Mr. Gordon has founded conservation non-profits including the National Wilderness Institutewhere hemanaged research, litigation, worked with federal whistleblowers and regularly testified before the US House and Senate on issues such as wetlands, property rights, international environmental designations, and endangered species. He has guided programs that led to Congressional hearings, GAO audits, federal legislation and law including: The Sportfish and Wildlife Restoration Improvement Act of 2000; the Potomac River Protection Act, S.3049; The Endangered Species Recovery Act, H.R. 2364; and the “Progressive Endangered Species Act. Mr. Gordon’s work and writings have earned media coverage from major networks, in papers of record such as the WSJ and Washington Post, and in professional publications such as Scientific American.
Mr. Gordon also served for two terms as a Board Member of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Board of Conservation and Recreation and been a principle in coalitions including Conservationists for Norton, the Grassroots Endangered Species Coalition and the Environmental Issues Council. Mr. Gordon graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BA in Russian and Soviet Studies. He resides in Alexandria with his wife Susanne and their three daughters.
