Andy Harris

Senator Andy Harris was elected to the Maryland State Senate in 1998. He has served on the Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs Committee, the Joint Committee on Health Care Delivery and Financing, the Joint Committee on the Selection of the State Treasurer, and the Executive Nominations Committee.
 
Senator Harris was selected by his peers to serve as the Minority Whip from 2003 to 2006. He is an active member of the Taxpayers Protection Caucus, the Maryland Veterans Caucus, and the National Conference of State Legislatures.
 
Before being elected to the state senate, Senator Harris taught Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He also served as the Chief of Obstetric Anesthesiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
 
Senator Harris graduated from The Johns Hopkins University with a degree in human biology. He then graduated from the School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, and the School of Hygiene and Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. Since 1988 he has served in the Medical Corps of the United States Naval Reserve and has been a Commander since 1994.
