Paul Tyson -  Former Guest Speaker at the Leadership Institute

Mr. Tyson is a retired Foreign Service Officer with extensive service in Western and Central Europe and the Middle East.

He was born in Fort Lee, Virginia while his career Army sergeant father was stationed there.  Mr. Tyson and his family lived on Army bases in Japan, Germany and in locations in the United States.  He graduated from Dartmouth College and the George Washington University Law School. 

Under Department of State auspices he attended the Foreign Service Institute, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the National War College.  He is a member of the Virginia State Bar.

He is currently an adjunct professor at New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire.  He teaches Masters Level courses in the US Constitution and government, Urban Issues and Race, Poverty and Class in America.

During his Foreign Service Career he focused on economic issues and energy issues in particular.  He served in Germany, the Sinai with the MFO, Saudi Arabia, the United Nations in New York, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.  He also traveled extensively as a Senior Inspector General (IG).

After retiring, Mr. Tyson spent 15 months in Iraq as an advisor to the Iraqi Commission on Public Integrity working on anti-corruption issues.

Later he worked for the Iraq-Afghanistan Joint Transition Planning Group under LTG Kicklighter and LTG Reno.

Mr. Tyson has worked on Gaza Arms Smuggling and Somali Piracy issues at the Department of State.

Mr. Tyson has worked in the Counter Terrorism Bureau at the Department of State.  He followed watch list, foreign fighter and ISIL/Daish issues.

Most recently, Mr. Tyson has been a Department of State reviewer for Freedom of Information (FOIA) and e mail issues.

Mr. Tyson also works with Strat3 and Field Marshall Tours on international affairs, military and diplomatic history and communications issues.

Mr. Tyson collects art and books. 

He and his son David are certified appraisers.

Mr. Tyson is married to the former Susan Gorman.  They have two grown children.
