Mary Elizabeth (Emmy) Lewis is President of Lewis & Company Marketing Communications, Inc., a full service agency established in 1983, which specializes in direct mail fundraising, membership development, marketing strategic planning, and audit & analysis of client communications’ message and media.
A nationally recognized expert in direct mail fundraising and major donor-membership programs, Lewis served as a primary architect of the history-making direct mail fundraising campaign for the three national Republican committees (Republican National Committee, National Republican Congressional Committee & National Republican Senatorial Committee) which implemented innovative targeting, contact, and membership loyalty programs. In addition, Lewis wrote the majority of fundraising appeals signed by Ronald Reagan, from 1976 through the 1980’s, on behalf of the three national Republican Party Committees. She has been called by Rodney Smith, former finance director for all three national republican committees––RNC, NRSC and NRCC, “the voice of Ronald Reagan in our Republican direct mail.”
As a result of these pioneering mail programs, the Republican Party increased its donor base from 200,000 to over 1.8 million individual member-donors, (including many Democrats and Independents), raised over $200 million, and achieved record levels of sustained giving by the broadest-based membership in its history. These direct mail packages and programs achieved the highest level of citizen participation, and raised more net money, at the time, than any other national political fundraising effort in history.
Among clients served since 1983 are: National Republican Senatorial Committee; the Republican National Committee; Washington Performing Arts Society; MCI-WorldCom; Washington Bach Consort; The Action Institute; Education Freedom Fund; National Federation of Independent Business; NFIB SAFE Trust (PAC); NFIB Small Business Legal Center Foundation; NFIB Leadership Trust; The Presbyterian Church of Ireland; Russell Kirk Center for Cultural Renewal; Music Mission Kiev and the Kiev Symphony Orchestra & Chorus; Music Camp International (Ukraine & Romania); American Tort Reform Association; Americans for Prosperity; The Fund for American Studies; Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation; and, the Intercollegiate Studies Institute.
