Wilhelm “Bill” Meierling is the Vice President of Public Affairs for the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) where he provides strategic counsel and public relations leadership for the nation’s largest voluntary membership organization of state elected officials. ALEC members work in a unique, public-private partnership to advance limited government, free market policy across the nation.
Prior to ALEC, Bill lead communications for the 41-country United Way Worldwide network, provided multicultural outreach and engagement counsel at Edelman Public Relations and conducted infrastructure and development communications campaigns throughout Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. Bill has counseled clients including Eskom (South Africa), Microsoft (China), Starbucks (Rwanda) on international communications and regional policy issues. As a political strategist, Bill directed local and national campaigns in Argentina, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Nicaragua and the United States.
Bill is a Lecturer in crisis management, state government relations and multicultural engagement at the George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management and serves on the board of Lipman Hearne, a higher-education-focused marketing and public relations firm in Chicago and Washington, D.C. His work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, New York Times, TIME, The Economist, CSPAN and the BBC.
