Julie Taylor -  Former Guest Speaker at the Leadership Institute

Julie Taylor is the Vice President of Development at the Competitive Enterprise Institute.

After moving to Washington, D.C. to work on the congressional staff of U.S. Representative Porter Goss, Ms. Taylor became interested in the organizations that conceived and promoted the ideas being debated on Capitol Hill. She joined the Heritage Foundation – the nation’s leading conservative public policy research organization – to raise funds for policy research marketed to members of Congress, Executive Branch officials, and the nation’s news media. She rose to become the Foundation’s chief proposal writer, composing hundreds of successful proposals that helped the Foundation to increase its annual giving by more than $3 million dollars. She was recruited to become one of the first professional fundraisers for the Competitive Enterprise Institute – described in the Wall Street Journal as the best environmental think tank in the country. In this position, she designed and implemented a major gifts program that increased the annual budget by 54% in just under 2 years.

When her former employer and treasurer of the Heritage Foundation was named president of Capital Research Center, Ms. Taylor was tapped to manage the reorganization of the development department. In the 1st year, total support and revenue for the Center increased 25%.  Beginning in 1996, Julie Taylor offered development consulting services to associations, membership organizations, and other national and global nonprofits. As a small business advocate, she has served as President of the Greater DC Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners and has had the privilege of telling the stories of some of the Washington area’s most successful entrepreneurs on Washington Business Tonight, Executive Leaders Radio Network and the Kojo Nnamdi Show.  In 2010, Julie rejoined CEI to prepare a growth plan for CEI’s next stage of development.  In FY 2012, CEI is seeking $6.5 million to support its role as a leading voice in Washington, D.C. on the hidden “tax” of regulation and the enormous human potential creatively unleashed through capitalism.
