Kent Strang -  Former Guest Speaker at the Leadership Institute

Kent Strang is currently the Grassroots & Programs Director at Americans for Prosperity Foundation – Illinois/Missouri where he works with activists throughout Illinois & Missouri to preserve financial freedoms by implementing and promoting grassroots projects and events.  


In 2012, Kent was the AFP Midwest Regional Field Director where he managed field coordinators in OH, IN, MO, IL, IA, & NE to advocate for economic freedom.  The Midwest field coordinators made over 4 million phones calls and knocked on over one hundred thousand doors to advance free market principles.    


Prior to joining AFP, Kent was the Youth Leadership School Director at the Leadership Institute.  In his tenure, he trained over 3,500 students and lectured at over 100 LI trainings.  


He joined the Institute in January 2007, as the Campus Election Coordinator, where he trained over 700 conservative college students to win student government elections.  In 2009-2010, more than 75% of trained candidates were elected to office. This training produced conservative victories on liberal campuses such as Michigan State, Florida International University, and the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee where conservatives were elected to 39 of 42 seats.


As an activist Kent has organized numerous protests and rallies that have resulted in national & international print and broadcast media. In 2008, Kent was instrumental in organizing a pro 2nd amendment rally at the Supreme Court prior the DC v. Heller decision. He and his fellow activists were featured on over 25 different media outlets including; The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, and the Steven Colbert Show. His antics at anti bailout protests and Tea Parties have been featured on Your World with Neil Cavuto, On the Record with Greta Van Susteren, and his personal favorite Aljazeera TV.  


Kent has been involved with campaigns since childhood and the Greene County Young Republicans Club he started at age 17 was a constant source of volunteers for local, state, and national campaigns. Kent was the Campaign Manager for Rob Siedlecki’s 2006 race for the Florida State House in Wellington Florida. He was the Deputy Campaign Manager for Michael Meunier’s House of Delegates race in Annandale Virginia in 2005.


He graduated with a B.A. in political science and speech communication from McKendree College, located in Lebanon Illinois. At McKendree, Kent was elected to student government in each of his four years, where he served as a Senator, Treasurer, and was elected to two consecutive terms at President.
