What you will learn

Interested in learning about grant writing? This training will teach you the ins and outs of grant writing and how it can be best used.

You will learn to:
  • Find a grant that is fit for your mission
  • Craft a one-page proposal
  • Write a letter of inquiry
  • Research and target foundations
This training is currently scheduled to be held online only but is prepared to move in-person should Arlington County safety guidelines permit. In the event it moves in-person, anyone who registered for the online portion will still be able to virtually attend.

Karla Bruno

Karla Bruno

Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations, The Leadership Institute

Karla Kraynak Bruno is a former English teacher and librarian, with over 35 years as an educator and researcher to her credit. She is a published author of historical fiction, a frequent guest columnist for two regional Virginia newspapers, and and a staunch advocate for Virginia's rightful claim to the First Thanksgiving.

As Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations at LI, Ms. Bruno maintains a caseload of 60 foundations while managing the content of all propsoals for LI's development team. In her copious free time, she serves on the Board for the Middle Resolution, an organization dedicated to helping the conservative cause in VIrginia.

Although Ms. Bruno was not born in Virginia, she got here as fast as she could.

Ms. Bruno earned a B.A. and an M.A.Ed from The College of William and Mary, and a Master's degree in Library Science from The Catholic University of America.

Her latest book is William and Mary and Tyler, Too: a biography of Lyon G. Tyler, to be published as soon as it is finished.
