James has extensive experience in campaign style communications, public affairs stakeholder outreach and digital media. He specializes in driving messages through surrogate operations, coalition building and leveraging gains in traditional media into online successes and vice versa. Prior to joining the Brunswick Group, James led the Digital Communications practice at Gibraltar Associates while also leading his own consulting practice, The Surge Strategies.
During the 2008 election cycle, James served as Deputy Director of Media Affairs at the Republican National Committee and Associate Director of Communications at the Republican National Convention. From 2006 to 2008, James served as Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense Public Affairs where he set up a proactive communications outreach structure to engage opinion leaders.
Prior to that, James served as the Director of Congressional Research for the Secretary of Defense. He received his B.S. in History from Georgia College & State University and is near completion of a Master’s in Public Administration.
