Narrative Biographical Sketch
Since 1997 Barry M. Aarons has been the owner of The Aarons Company LLC, a public policy consulting firm specializing in legislative representation, coalition building, business management, seminar and strategic planning facilitation and grass roots advocacy. His client base contains a broad portfolio of private sector, trade association and non-profit think tanks, corporations and organizations as well as political subdivisions.
Aarons has over forty years experience in policy development, public affairs implementation and lobbying in the Arizona Legislature, other state legislatures and the US Congress. His expertise includes economic development, telecommunications, taxation, tourism and health care among other areas.
He facilitates seminars on a multitude of topics including public policy, coalition building, grass roots advocacy, campaign management, message delivery and business management. He has assisted corporations, non profits and trade associations in the creation of their strategic plans and has developed and implemented speakers’ bureaus and other communications vehicles for communications campaigns, legislative initiatives and ballot propositions.
Aarons spent decades as Public Affairs Director for the old Mountain Bell and USWest companies (now Century Link) and in the regulatory and executive branches of Arizona State government. He served as Special Assistant, Policy Advisor and Legislative Director for former Arizona Governor Fife Symington.
Aarons is a Senior Research Fellow for the Lewisville, Texas based Institute for Policy Innovation. He is a regular faculty member for the Arlington, Virginia based Leadership Institute having facilitated and instructed at their schools at scores of locations around the country.
A frequent lecturer in political science at the University of Phoenix and Arizona State University, he has also been an Adjunct Professor in Arizona State University's Political Science Department from where he holds his undergraduate degree.
He has written opinion pieces for the Arizona Capitol Times, AZ Attorney Magazine the Digital Deltan and the Phoenix Jewish News and has had numerous policy reports and opinion pieces published by the Institute for Policy Innovation (www.IPI.ORG).
He also writes regularly on lobbying and policy issues for various trade association journals, magazines and newsletters and has had opinion pieces on telecommunications published in local newspapers in a variety of cities nationally.
