Laura Keehner Rigas oversees all internal and external communications efforts for the American Conservative Union -- America’s oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization -- as the National Communications Director.
As the former Press Secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Laura served as the chief spokesperson for former Secretary Michael Chertoff and managed all national and international media and press contact with the department and its numerous agencies. Most recently, she was the Vice President for Communications at Business Executives for National Security and also helped with several state-wide Republican campaigns in Massachusetts.
Prior to her position at DHS she served at the White House in the Office of Presidential Personnel and as a senior advisor at the U.S. Department of Justice. Before spending more than six years in the George W. Bush administration, Laura was the first Government Liaison at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research. Her first foray into politics was as an intern at the House Republican Conference for former Chairman J.C. Watts.
Laura earned her Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy from the College of William and Mary and her Master’s degree in Public Administration at the Harvard Kennedy School. She is a former board member and current member of the Junior League of Washington and a native of California. She and her husband, Michael J. Rigas, live in Alexandria, Virginia.
