David Johnson

 

Dave Johnson has worked professionally in politics for a quarter century, specializing in strategic communications and candidate message development.

From 1997 – 2008, Dave was President of Conquest Communications Group, LLC and a partner in Bold Stroke Associates, Inc.. Conquest is a national political tele-contact firm with offices in Richmond, Virginia, which provides tele-contact services to Republican candidates, conservative causes and associations and non-profit organizations. Bold Stroke provided strategic consulting, message development and management services to the same community.

Prior to founding Conquest and Bold Stroke, Dave served as Executive Director of the Republican Party of Virginia for three years. During Johnson’s tenure, a Republican was elected to the Governorship for the first time in 12 years and the GOP ended its minority status in the State Senate for the first time ever.

Johnson also oversaw the production, budgeting and media relations for the two largest political conventions -- in terms of voting delegates -- in American history (15,000 delegates and guests and nearly 1,000 members of the media were credentialed in 1994).

Prior to joining RPV, Dave was with the National Republican Congressional Committee in a number of capacities for eight years. During the 1992 election cycle, he served as Political Director for the northern half of U.S. Early in the '92 cycle, Dave served as Director of Candidate Recruitment. Also at the NRCC, Johnson was a regional field representative in the Northeast ('87 - '88) and South ('89 - '90), and a Research Analyst / Earned Media Specialist in the Western states ('85 - '86).

Johnson, a graduate of the American University in Washington, DC, lives in the Varina section of Henrico County, Virginia, with his wife Jennifer and their four children. He is a former Vestryman of Varina Episcopal Church, and was twice elected to the position of Senior Warden. He has also twice served as the church’s delegate to the annual Virginia Diocesan Council. Johnson is a member of the Board of Trustees of Seven Hills School, a middle school for boys, and serves as Treasurer. He is a former board member and treasurer of the Anirav Swim Club and former Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Good Shepherd Episcopal School. He served on the Executive Council of the Varina Youth Sports (a Babe Ruth baseball affiliate) as Vice President.

In 2001, Dave was appointed to Virginia’s Small Business Advisory Council by then-Governor James S. Gilmore III.

Johnson is a former board member of the Executive Board of the National Association of Republican Campaign Professionals. He served as a Delegate to the 1996 and 2000 Republican National Conventions. He is the former Chairman of the Third Congressional District Committee of the Republican Party of Virginia.

Johnson is a native of the Virginia Peninsula, where he first got involved in Republican politics by volunteering for the congressional campaign of Paul Trible in 1976.
