Mark Johnson

Mark Johnson currently serves as Deputy Chief Information Officer (Deputy CIO) in the Economic Development Administration (EDA) with the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) in Washington, DC.

Mr. Johnson has been working as a full time Federal Government employee since November, 2008. He attended the Leadership Institute’s Civil Service Opportunity School in May 2006, and the training played a large role in helping him attain his role as a career civil servant in the Federal Service.

During his time at the 2006 Civil Service School, Mr. Johnson interviewed with Reston based Terrestar Networks. He began working at Terrestar approximately two months later. In 2008, Mr. Johnson moved into the Federal Civil Service as IT Project Manager with the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) in Washington, DC.  In 2011, Mr. Johnson was promoted from the USITC to the EDA in the DOC. Mr. Johnson reached out to George Nesterczuk, one LI’s Civil Service faculty, and received targeted advice that helped him to land the job at USITC. He has enjoyed his work in the Federal Government and greatly appreciates the opportunity to make a contribution to our great Nation and its citizens.

“I am greatly indebted to the Leadership Institute and its Civil Service program.  I greatly appreciate the help and I cannot say enough good things about the Leadership Institute.” – Mark Johnson
